Site Monetization - Pushing the Envelope #1

You Comment I Follow Your Love Links

In this issue, we look at how you can push the envelope on monetization for your blog or website. Bearing mind mind that some of us may have limited funds to start a website online, I’m going to list these steps with as little investments required as possible.

Monetization in simple sense is to make money out of your own website or blog. This is normally achieved by allowing advertisers to place advertisements on your site. The best part to this is you can decide where you will like such ads to appear. Done effectively, monetization can pay for upkeep of your site ie: web hosting charges and other start-up cost. Best of all, you make a profit which normally starts to grow as your site gain popularity amongst other advertisers and reviewers over time.

Get online: The first thing you really need to do is to get online and create a web presence as quickly as possible. Blogger.com and WordPress.org do offer you free blogs but they have limited features to you can use. Ultimately, they do not make very good choices if you are intending to capitalize on site monetization. After much consideration, I have only 2 recommendations and I have listed them in preference.

  • Purchase your own domain at Register Domains at GoDaddy.com
  • Get web hosting:

Install your site: Once you have done that, install your website or your blog via Fantastico if you had signed-up for web hosting via . If you will like to have a website instead of a blog, I recommend you get professional looking websites from EzMinisites Template Club. A shabby looking website will not do you any good at all. Alternatively, install a WordPress blog from your cPanel > Fantastico dashboard from within your web hosting account. I recommend that your install it on a sub domain for example “yourdomain.com/blog” for best results. By doing so, you will have your WordPress blog installed on “blog” and will be able to use the professional templates from EzMinisites Template Club on your main domain “yourdomain.com” ie: on your “index.html”, “index.php” or “index.htm” page. Doing so will allow you to create a light and fast loading splash page or what some of us call the lead capture or captive page. Such a page will allow you to list multiple links and at the same time do a lot more like inserting a lead capture form or monetization. Bear in mind that the main “index” page should be as “lightweight” and “fast loading” as possible.

Get readers: Once that is done, sign-up for a free FeedBurner account and read through then follow the instructions on the SurfAdsInc Network Page. Alternative, do the following:

  • Sign-up at paypal_logo233x63 Site Monetization - Pushing the Envelope #1 (so that you can get paid).
  • Drop me an email (use the “Contact” link at top of the blog) and provide me the email address you used to sign-up at FeedBurner.
  • Wait for the email invitation to join the SurfAdsInc Network.

Once you have all that setup, you have opened yourself to immediate monetization opportunities through huge corporations like 3M, BlackBerry, Reebok, Symantec on the FeedBurner Advertisers Network (FAN). With the recent acquisition of FeedBurner by Google, you can be assure by even more monetization opportunities. with a ready pool of readers which currently stands at an approximate of 1,500+. What you need to do next is make your first introductory post. Tell people a little about yourself and your blog focus and content.

Get Paid Per Click: To further monetize your site and blog, sign-up for Google AdSense. There is a “green button” to sign-up on this blog’s sidebar so just hit that button and you should be done in about 3 minutes flat. Last thing you need to do is go grab the 5 Free Gifts from Joel Comm.

Get ready: I will share more in the next issue of this series in a few days. Get going folks!
