Fourth week in Hanoi
The weekend was rather quiet except for a rude wake up call I received at 02:00hrs on Sunday morning. Other than that, I’m glad most of the personal stuff have been sorted out. Good riddance really but I will not elaborate. It’s my fourth week here and also my last day here; for now at least. I will be headed back home to Singapore tomorrow. I am looking forward to that actually. Though I am sure that business class on Vietnam Airlines isn’t going to make much of a difference. I’d rather fly economy class on Singapore Airlines to be honest. It will be close to 2 weeks before I am scheduled to be in Hanoi again.
Anyway, I took a 2 minutes walk out of the project office during lunch today. The Catholic Cathedral in Hanoi (Saint Joseph’s Cathedral) just down the street still holds regular Masses on the weekends. On the weekdays, there are barricades surrounding it but this is a very prominent landmark and unique to its own. I’m not sure how old this building is exactly but if its older than I am, it’s another structure that survived the war. I should have taken some pictures of this in the morning. By lunch time, the natural lighting wasn’t as good.
Someone tell me if this is a statue of the Immaculate Heart?
I can’t quite figure what it says here. Help anyone?
I couldn’t get a better picture of the smaller details as the surroundings of the cathedral was fenced up. I would reckon that I will have to come back here on a weekend to get a look of the inside. Maybe I should. I haven’t been to Sunday Mass for the longest time. The last picture wasn’t too good. Still, I was only armed with my Sony Ericsson P1i so stop grumbling.
