I’m back here again and this time round, it will be a short trip. Arriving last Sunday evening, I scheduled to be here for a week and my stint on this project will have come to an end. At least for now that is.
Went back to some familiar places the past couple of evenings. Brought GH and some team members to Quan Bia Minh for dinner on Monday evening. Sadly, the food was crap compared to the last few times I was there including with MF. Last evening was dinner at Finnegan’s with GH. Again, this place is a little pricey but according to GH, the Shepard’s Pie was good. I settled for Fish and Chips since I wasn’t in the mood to think about what to have for dinner.
The chaps at Finnegan’s have more or less went back home for the summer. One back to the UK, 2 back to Ireland and another back to Switzerland. Only Bernie and Peter was there for awhile last evening.
Could had been an edgy 3 weeks but I had my beef with the wait staff yesterday. GH had ordered a Tiger in the bottle. Myself a pint of Amber. The lady behind the bar pumped a Pint of Tiger instead for GH. We could have insisted that we will not have that but being nice folks. I offered to take the Pint of Tiger and GH could still have his Tiger in the bottle.
Turned out Amber was on a 1-for-1 special. So for 60,000 VND, you get 2 Ambers. Told the wait staff that I had initially wanted to order a pint of Amber. Taking the Tiger pint was a favour since it was a mistake on their part and they can’t put it back into the barrel. So I would pay for the Amber instead at 60,000 VND. Since I already took the Tiger Pint, just give me another Amber pint (on special) and we call it even.
All was agreed upon but when it was time for the bill, they insisted I had to pay for both the Tiger and Amber pints. I could have my other Amber they said. This is a case of mistake on the staff’s part and customer being nice and now the customer has to pay for staff’s mistake.
Seriously, 50,000 VND is less than SGD 4.00. It’s the inconsistency and unethical behaviour here that really pissed me off. Well, I didn’t want to create a scene. If they would dupe and shift the blame over to the customer and act ignorant about it for 50,000 VND, so be it. One thing is for sure, I’m not going back there again. Finnegan’s in my books is not one place I would recommend anymore.
