I received a few emails from some of you asking me about RSS Feed. I myself am pretty new to the technology. I will however share with you what I know so far and continue to add on to this post if I learn of anything else. In this post, I will show you the steps required to enable RSS Feed for your Blog or website and how you can subscribe to RSS Feed too.
RSS Feed allows you to broadcast your Blog or website instantaneously to anyone who subscribes to your feed via a news reader or and email program like “Outlook” or “Thunderbird“. Think of it as a “real-time” information feed direct to you. Due to housekeeping reasons, I recommend that you use “Thunderbird” for RSS Feeds. There is no standard format in RSS Feeds right now. Enabling RSS Feed for your Blog. (Go to Step 4 if you don’t have a Blog)

“Type” http://www.feedburner.com/ in your browser address bar and hit “Go”

“Enter your URL (example: http://nicholasmong.com/) for your Blog or website and “Click” on “Next”.

Follow the online instructions to configure your RSS Feed.

Take note of the following.
-
“Check” on “Browser-Friendly Burner” => “Theme” set to “Clear Feed” => “Level of Detail” set to “List feed item titles and content”.

“Check” on “SmartCast” => “Check” on “Include iTunes Podasting elements” & “Include RSS Media ….”
-
“Check” on “SmartFeed”.

“Check” on “Feed Image Burner” => “Image Source” set to “Use “Powered by FeedBurner” logo”.

“Click” on “Save Feed Settings”.

“Copy” and “Save” your FeedBurner URL. (example: http://feeds.feedburner.com/NicholasMOng)
Subscribing to RSS Feeds.

Download Thunderbird.
-
Install and restart if required.

Launch Thunderbird.

“Right click” and “Copy Shortcut” to RSS Feed you wish to subscribe.

In this case, http://feeds.feedburner.com/NicholasMOng
-
To Setup new RSS News & Blog account.

From the left window pane, select “Local Folders”.

“Click” on “Create a new account” in main window.
-
On pop-up window, “Select” on “RSS News & Blogs” and “Click” on “Next”.

Enter “Account Name” (just leave it for now) and “Click” on “Next”.

Back at the main window.

From the left window pane, select the newly created “RSS Feed: News & Blogs”.

“Click” on “Manage subscriptions”.

“Click” on “Add”.
-
“Right click” and “Paste” my Feed URL: and “Click” on “OK” in this case; http://feeds.feedburner.com/NicholasMOng

“Click” on “OK” to exit.

Back at main window.

On the left window pane, you should now see “Nicholas M Ong“.

“Click” on it to view latest post via LIVE RSS Feed on the main window.
You have just successfully subscribed to LIVE RSS Feed on Nicholas M Ong. By the way, you can also place a FeedBurner RSS Feed Chicklet as your forum signature like the one below.
These are also good as emails signature. so which ever way it is, you are well covered. These signatures should increase your Blog traffic and increase subscription to your LIVE RSS Feed service. Just copy and paste the code below. Remember to submit your Feed service URL. Here’s the code:
